We are pleased to present our CD version of the classic 1927 portfolio of stencil designs: Ideas & Studies in Stenciling & Decorating by A.Desaint. This is a really gorgeous book, with stunning designs in high Art Deco style, and it was great fun to develop the reproduction.
The original book has 71 pages: 40 black & white plates showing hundreds of designs, and 4 color pages. There are also 26 pages, with illustrations of tools and materials, devoted to theories and methods of stencil design and application.
We've added two more color images, for a total of 6, to give you a better idea of how these stencil designs might appear in use. Each of these new pages has a digitally colored design with extra pattern repeats added.

We have not merely scanned this book at a high resolution. Just as we do for all our fine printed reproductions, all images have been professionally repaired and restored. Our printed books all have color-corrected images. Since monitor and printer colors vary, we include 2 printed color palette pages in a clear archival sleeve, to allow you to see the colors as originally intended.
This reproduction catalog on CD is meant to be a permanent reference. Our fine printed reproductions are already in some museum research libraries. This item includes:
- CD with entire book in easy-to-use Adobe Acrobat® (PDF) format.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader® for Mac and Windows PC.
- 2 paper color palettes (also on the CD). We have matched the colors on these to the colors in our original book, under daylight conditions. Useful if you want to print and hand-color a design or actually color-calibrate your own printer.
- You can even print out enlarged versions of the designs. (Most printers support this feature.)
Available for Windows PC and Mac. Our installation CD includes Adobe Acrobat Reader® Version 6 for Windows PC and Versions 6 and 7 for Mac. Updates and other versions may be downloaded free from the Adobe site, where you can also check system requirements.
