Over Twice the Original Size

This is a beautifully reproduced 1917 catalog from the Pickard Studios, well-known Chicago china and glass decorators of the Arts & Crafts period. (The firm, which later became the Pickard China Company, is still in business today.) The catalog shows many pieces in a variety of shapes, colors, and methods of decoration, and has 32 pages including our introduction.

Many pieces in the patterns listed above are pictured. The photographs are accompanied by descriptions of how the decorative designs were developed, as well as the philosophy behind the choices of color in the decoration.

The catalog also includes descriptions and drawings of carefully decorated interiors, and lists suggested menus for gracious entertaining. Around this time, china, silver, and glassware firms often issued product catalogs of this sort. This catalog, titled The Art of Entertaining, is an example of that advertising genre.

Many, many different pieces are pictured, including pitchers, bowls, goblets, trays, vases, dinnerware of all types, a pitcher & goblet set, coffee and tea sets, other serving pieces, a dresser set, and many others.

We have digitally reproduced and restored our original catalog at an extremely high resolution, and printed the back & white and color pages on heavy archival paper stocks. This is not a photocopy - our methods allow us to retain an unusual image clarity and depth of detail, sometimes limited only by the production values of the original. Some of our fine reproduction catalogs are already in museum research collections.

This reproduction catalog is meant to be a permanent reference. Its true spiral binding, unlike a comb binding, allows this book to remain unharmed when left open at the desired place. The front and back covers are printed on heavy cover stock, protected by sturdy clear vinyl outer covers.
