This is a beautiful reproduction of the 1904 Rookwood Book, the first Rookwood mail-order catalog, This was produced while Rookwood was conducting its ultimately unsuccessful experiment with mail order sales. Rookwood had retained J.Walter Thompson as its advertising agency for this effort.

This 35-page catalog, plus covers and introduction, includes 15 pages with gray-tone pots on cream background, 8 full-color pages, and a 3-page price list with options for various designs. There is also a page listing honors won by Rookwood from 1887 through 1904.

A total of eight types of Rookwood glazes and decoration are pictured and described:

  • Sea Green
  • Iris
  • Matte Glaze
  • Matte Glaze Painting
  • Conventional Mat Glaze
  • Incised Matte Glaze
  • Modelled Matte Glaze
  • Vellum ware

We have digitally reproduced and restored our original catalog at a high resolution. The pages are printed on a heavy gloss paper reminiscent of the original. This is not a photocopy - we can preserve image clarity and depth of detail not possible with other methods of reproduction. Where possible, the reproduction exceeds the image quality of our original catalog,

Its true spiral binding, unlike a comb binding, allows this book to remain unharmed when left open at the desired place. Heavy clear vinyl covers protect the front and back, and the cover image is reproduced on an even heavier weight paper than the inside pages. Our fine reproductions are already in some museum research libraries. This reproduction catalog is meant to be a permanent reference.
