This is a highly detailed and accurate reproduction of the 80-page 1950 FAO Schwarz Christmas catalog, an interesting snapshot of mid-century American toys and gift-giving.

Schwarz was world-renowned for the quality and incredible variety of their children's toys, and their catalog was eagerly read by children across the country. Visiting their Fifth Avenue store was a special holiday treat for families. But since Schwarz toys were considered quite expensive, many came just to see the store displays, then did their actual shopping elsewhere. If you played with a toy in the early fifties, though, it's probably in this comprehensive catalog.

We have digitally reproduced and restored our original catalog at an extremely high resolution. The pages are printed on a heavy cream low-gloss paper reminiscent of the original. This is not a photocopy - our methods allow us to retain an unusual image clarity and depth of detail. (We are limited in some cases only by the quality of the original document.)

This reproduction catalog is meant to be a permanent reference. Its true spiral binding, unlike a comb binding, allows this book to remain unharmed when left open at the desired place. Heavy clear vinyl covers protect the front and back, and the cover image is reproduced on an even heavier weight paper than the inside pages. Our fine reproductions are already in some museum research libraries.
