This is a highly detailed, professionally restored reproduction of the 1955 FAO Schwarz Christmas catalog, an interesting snapshot of mid-century toys and gift-giving.

Schwarz was world-renowned for the quality and incredible variety of their children's toys, and their catalog was eagerly read by childern across the country. Visiting their Fifth Avenue store was a special holiday treat for families. But since Schwarz toys were considered quite expensive, many came just to see the store displays, then did their actual shopping elsewhere. If you played with a toy in the mid-fifties, though, it's probably in this comprehensive catalog.

The 1955 FAO Schwarz catalog is a mirror of mid-fifties culture and a nostalgic look back for early baby-boomers, historians, collectors, and other interested readers.

We have digitally reproduced and restored our original catalog at an extremely high resolution, and printed the pages on a heavy gloss stock. This is not a photocopy - our methods allow us to retain an unusual image clarity and depth of detail. Colors, if any, are daylight-corrected. Some of our fine reproduction catalogs are already in museum research collections.

This reproduction catalog is meant to be a permanent reference. Its true spiral binding, unlike a comb binding, allows this book to remain unharmed when left open at the desired place. The front and back covers are printed on heavy marbled cover stock, protected by sturdy clear vinyl outer covers.

A wonderful and unusual gift for yourself or someone special.
