'Belfast' in Color
(from 1934 'Modern Homes' catalog)
This is a fine reproduction of the 1932 construction drawings prepared by Sears architects for the Belfast, a kit house model shown in 1932-1937 Sears Modern Homes catalogs. These houses were constructed from a Sears plan and used Sears fixtures, with pre-cut lumber and other construction materials that were delivered prior to the start of each related phase of the construction.
The original 6-sheet drawing set is about 18" x 24". The reproduction size is 8 1/2" x 11". We include full-page color images of the original blueprints and 28 pages with every drawing from each blueprint page, at about the same scale as on the blueprints. (We've produced these pages with inverted tones, that is, black drawings on a white background, for clarity.)
We also include a page from our original 1934 Sears "Modern Homes" catalog, in which we've added color to the Belfast. The 1934 catalog's Belfast has a gable window and porch columns different from the one in our blueprints. Buyers could customize their houses with options such as these.
Those renovating or studying other Sears homes may very well find these blueprints useful - Sears frequently adapted or re-used its existing floor plans, details, or elevations in subsequent house models to cut costs.
Please note - the images shown here have been greatly reduced in size and resolution for computer viewing. All pictures in the book are quite clear and readable.

We have digitally reproduced and restored our original catalog at an extremely high resolution, and printed the pages on a heavy paper stock. This is not a photocopy - our photo-editing software and digital techniques allow us to retain an unusual image clarity and depth of detail, limited sometimes only by the production values of the original. Some of our fine reproduction catalogs are already in museum research collections.
This reproduction catalog is meant to be a permanent reference. Its plastic spiral binding, unlike a cheaper comb binding, allows this book to remain unharmed when left open at the desired place. The front and back covers are printed on heavy marbled cover stock and protected by sturdy clear vinyl outer covers.
