This is a fine reproduction of the 1921 Sears Simplex Sectional Buildings catalog, which also includes some kit houses. Unlike the kit houses, four of which are shown here, Simplex buildings were constructed of standardized pre-fabricated sections. They are also called "portable" homes, since they could theoretically be disassembled and rebuilt at another location. Many permanent homes sometimes thought to be kit houses are actually former Simplex vacation cottages that have been expanded and weatherproofed.
All manner of houses and buildings are illustrated, along with many sample interiors. There are also color paint samples, a full-page advertisement for Sears Building and Millwork supplies, two pages of illustrations showing typical pre-fab components, and, of course, many, many Simplex houses and buildings, some shown with furnished interiors.
All the testimonials give towns and states, and some list actual street addresses and owner or builder names. The illustrated houses are named and priced. The other types of buildings have model numbers listed, and most are priced.

We have digitally reproduced and restored our original catalog at an extremely high resolution, and printed the pages on a heavy paper stock. This is not a photocopy - our photo-editing software and digital techniques allow us to retain an unusual image clarity and depth of detail, limited sometimes only by the production values of the original. Some of our fine reproduction catalogs are already in museum research collections.
This reproduction catalog is meant to be a permanent reference. Its color-coordinated plastic spiral binding, unlike a cheaper comb binding, allows this book to remain unharmed when left open at the desired place. The front and back covers are printed on heavy marbled cover stock and protected by sturdy clear vinyl outer covers.
