  • This is a fine reproduction of the 1917 Sterling Homes kit house catalog. A kit house "package" was comprised of all materials needed to construct the house, precut with crucial components keyed to assembly drawings and instructions, and conventional construction documents (specifications plus drawings of floor plans and construction details).

This catalog illustrates 64 houses with perspective views and plan drawings. Additionally, there are garages, summer cottages, and a few smaller, simpler houses. Interior views are included for many models, and there is a fully illustrated section showing some lock sets plus a selection of millwork such as doors, windows, built-in cupboards, and wood trim.

The catalog pages are in black and white, as is our original. The front and back covers, however, are in color.

Images shown on this web page have been greatly reduced in size and resolution for computer viewing.

See more catalogs like this in our Buildings & Ornament Department.

We have digitally reproduced and restored the original catalog at a high resolution, at about its original size, and printed it on a heavy archival paper stock. This is not a photocopy - our photo-editing software and digital techniques allow us to retain an unusual image clarity and depth of detail, depending, of course, on the production values of the original catalog. Some of our fine reproduction catalogs are already in museum research collections.

This reproduction catalog is meant to be a permanent reference. Its plastic spiral binding, unlike a cheaper comb binding, allows this book to remain unharmed when left open at the desired place. The front and back covers are printed on heavy marbled cover stock and protected by sturdy clear vinyl outer covers.
