Impossibly Rare Mold Shop Sheets
1926 through about 1944
New Martinsville / Viking Glass Catalog
Cut & Polished Gray Cut Gray and Polished Cut Frosted Opalescent Pressed Molded Crimped Etched
This is a highly detailed and accurate reproduction of an astonishing find -- an impossibly large and rare binder of catalog-like pages from New Martinsville Glass. I assume that these sheets were compiled around the time of its change of name to Viking. The photograph pages all have the same imprint of both "New Martinsville Glass Company" and "Viking" along the bottom (see picture). The first page has the handwritten notations "Approx. 1928 - 1944" and "Mould (sic) shop". There is also the notation "some items still in line [in] 1970", which seems to date these notes pretty reasonably to the Age of Aquarius.
There is a handwritten notation, "1926", at the top of the page with the pattern "Etched No. 26". If the year corresponds to the pattern name throughout, then some years represented are: 1926, 1928 (first page notation), 1929, 1930, 1931, and 1942. Note to experts: please respond regarding relation of some style numbers to dates.

The original binder consists of catalog-like pages each with multiple pieces, interspersed with typewritten pages that have item numbers, prices, and usually dimensions. I believe every pictured piece has this corresponding information. There are 70 pages of photographs and 35 typewritten information sheets. The photographs are incredibly beautiful, as are the pieces, of course. The binder, titled "New Martinsville Glass Company" (see picture) is very dark blue with silver motifs and printing.
We acquired two of these some time ago from a West Virginia dealer. They have identical photo pages but only one has the typewritten information sheets described above. At some point, if there appears to be interest, we will up for auction this duplicate binder together with reproductions of the typewritten sheets.

We have digitally reproduced and restored our original 100+ pages at an extremely high resolution. The pages are printed on a heavy gloss paper reminiscent of the original. This is not a photocopy - our methods allow us to retain an unusual image clarity and depth of detail. Its true spiral binding, unlike a comb binding, allows this book to remain unharmed when left open at the desired place. Heavy clear vinyl covers protect the front and back, and the cover image is reproduced on an even heavier weight paper than the inside pages. Our fine reproductions are already in some museum research libraries.
This reproduction catalog is meant to be a permanent reference for the collector or other interested reader.
